The audio let out by Smoke Radio today has to be some of the best that has ever been done in the last 18 months of broadcasting. After minutes of nervous waiting Dave Benson Phillips arrived with his wife all the way from Worthing wearing an extremley loud Hawaiian shirt! Goodlass and Marshall gave an absolutely fantastic interview asking questions about his gungy career presenting on Get Your Own Back and his antics with the Why Bird and co on Playdays but I was really pleased that there was a serious edge to it with Dave giving advice on how to get into television and entertaining overall. Just a great guest and a lovely chap as well!
I opened my show by asking him to give an impromotu performance of "Jelly On The Plate" which was brilliant but I felt as if I really did want to hear it badly when asking him so Dave if your reading this I apologise and you can give me a well deserved gunging! He chatted to the Smoke crew for at least half an hour into my show but I didn't let that or the problems with the computer audio disrupt the show and concentrated on the great music that I had to offer.
Including of course the new Incognito album which surprised me because my favourite track on their was their cover of "That's The Way Of The World" and Earth Wind and Fire classic. Just brilliant I don't know how to describe it, and it got a great reaction in the studio and on MSN. The covers of "Always There" and "Everyday" were rather mellow but very original and gave a new twist to the tunes. Hopefully the band will perform the normal uptempo versions at their Jazz Cafe gig in a few weeks or maybe fuse them together with the new ones eh? Go on Bluey, surprise us!
