Only just a month after meeting him in Fopp when Incognito were performing I've found out via Digital Spy that Peter Young made his last appearance on Smooth Radio tonight on his soul show. I'm rather gutted as I was unable to hear it but I'm hoping that he finds somewhere to spin his ever superb selection of tunes.
I know he has made a few appearances on Solar now and again and it would probably be the ideal place to move to as he would fit in perfectly with the rest of the people on there who share just as much passion for the music but PY definitely stands out for me as one of the best soul presenters on UK Radio.
From what I read on the forums at Digital Spy he mentioned about his long stint on the station which lasted on and off for 18 years and I spent many a Sunday afternoon during the time of my HND course listening to him on Jazz FM as it was then, often influencing what records I would buy.
At Smooth they've lined up Andy Peebles to replace him who used to present a Soul and Soccer show on the station a few years ago, and will be going out on other stations within the network but it's not going to be the same to be honest.
Hopefully it won't be the last we hear of PY on the wireless.
