So was tonight worth staying up for?
Well it definitely seems like the fastest four hours I've had,
booze free of course.
The Moyles documentary was pretty good although it was a
tiny bit anti-climatic in a sense of "boldly going where all
other radio documentaries have gone before".
In other words there was nothing new or any uncovered
revelations that I'm sure many fans would loved to have
found out more of.
It was good to see the Blood On The Carpet documentary again
even if the outbursts were bleeped, but that didn't stop it from
showing Adrian Juste as the bitter old buffoon he really is.
Best of all was the vintage episode of Wogan which was notable
for many reasons.
One being the musical cues for when the guests were introduced
which happened to be muzak versions of JAM and PAMS Radio 1
jingles.
One of them being the "Rock" cut from the 1980 package
and the PAMS "London Bridge" jingle from the original 1967 set.
The studio guests were Tony Blackburn and John Peel together,
then interviews with four other members of the then "old guard"
quite a few had moved on to commercial radio with Pete Murray
at LBC and Ed Stewart then at Radio Mercury in Surrey.
Dave Cash even wore his Invicta Radio t-shirt on display!
I don't do this often nowadays, but I recorded just about everything
onto VHS, save for Blood On The Carpet which I already have
from it's 2001 transmission with the swearing intact.
And just for the fun of it, some of my favourite Radio 1 jingles
over the last 40 years;
"The UK's Number 1" (1992)
"Britain's Favourite Music Station" (1987)
"Late Night Hours" (1967)
"Good Morning!" (1976)
"Gary Davies Bit In The Middle" (1987)
"Ask For A Song" (1984)
"The Best Music" (1980)
"Happy 21st Birthday" (1987/88)
"1FM-Soul" (1994)
"1FM-Ragga" (1994)
"Beats" (2000)
Plenty of memories spanning many different generations
of the station.
I'm hoping tonight doesn't dominate too much discussion
on the Central line crawl on Saturday but then again,
that's like expecting me not to drink any WKDs.
