I normally try and set myself a "New Month's Resolution" on every first,
and I think I've already failed my one for May.
That being trying to look for the positive and not even talk about
shit that either gets me down worked up for no good reason.
It was watching a programme on Channel 5 last night looking
at the "10 Things I Hate About 1987" confirming that nostalgia/
archive clip based shows are pretty much dead.
The aim of the programme itself seemed to be the reverse
of my revolution, in being to make sarcastic comments about
everything from 1987 even if it was actually good.
One of them was Going Live! which did have initial teething issues as
a new series would, but 10 Things chose to focus on the awkward
early links with Phillip and Sarah, and very crafty editing
made sure no footage of Trev and Simon crept in.
Having Robert Webb as narrator pretty much summed it up as
his forced cynical manner got really tiresome, although if
you take the number of other shows he's been enlisted on for
the same job, it was never amusing in the first place.
Stick to Peep Show, and the Flashdance routines.
Tonight should be better as I'm attending an open deck night
at Camden's Grand Union and hopefully meeting up with the guy
who's asked me to DJ at a few of the GU's other venues this month.
It's going to be a challenge, but without the nerves it would be
nowhere near as exciting.
