Ooh, I've found another goldmine, a Youtube user who has a barrage of Indie Chart rundowns from the ITV Chart Show covering 1990-1993!
I'll be perfectly honest by saying that The Chart Show was the first ever place where I heard (well, saw) the term "Indie" used and I never realised that it would be overblown throughout the decade.
I know there's someone out there who's probably done the same for both Rock and Dance with stacks of VHS's and I'd love for them to do the same as there's several tracks from both genres that will never get heard again for all I know.
That's why I never got into CD:UK when it started, because despite being a very well produced programme in terms of presenters and enthusiasm, it was never as eclectic and diverse as the Chart Show was, because on the former you would see videos that wouldn't even get shown on MTV. And I know I'm not the only one who agrees.
This is what made them stand out not just from other music shows on television but other shows on television full stop.
I'm prepared for people to take the piss out of it including one such incident on the first edition of Room 101 where guest Bob Monkhouse wanted to put the Big Breakfast on the conveyor belt after being unable to cope with the manic style of the show when guest presenting it (although it looked like he was enjoying the company of Zig And Zag).
Presenter Nick Hancock on first referring to the programme said that it
"makes The Chart Show look like it's got some sort of a plot..."
And he was right, you rarely saw any videos from the same genre back to back unless it was in a rundown of course.
Overall the lesson learnt was that you don't always need presenters to hold things together. Unfortunately several radio stations have taken that idea too far!
