The High Dive Into The Shallow End

I've sensed stolen thunder this morning.

I'll go onto Wogan later, but this morning's Chris Moyles' show broke the records as Radio 1's longest running continuous breakfast show and started it off with a revised version of that landmark show opener from the first show in January 2004 albeit with a few new lyrics such as his love for curry, chips and beer.

The most notable change was at the end when instead of going "National Radio 1" it went "BBC Radio 1" which most of his newer jingles have followed suit in doing.

Some of the older beds such as the big band ones still have "National" or "International" on them which assures that the BBC aren't breaking the bank too far.

Highlights so far have included a guest apperance by "the leader" Tony Blackburn, and a special song by Alesha Dixon with lyrics written by Comedy Dave to the tune of "Breathe Slow".

90 minutes later, Terry Wogan has announced that he will be quitting his Radio 2 show at the end of the year with Chris Evans taking over.

I think this is a bit of a desperate publicity stunt and although I've nothing against Evans, this is bound to cause utter chaos and a very big risk of Radio 2 to take considering they're just ahead of Chris Moyles in the listening figures.

I suppose the only positive thing is that El Tel will be leaving whilst he's still doing well but believe me there will be an outcry and a lot worse than when Evans took over the drivetime slot from Johnnie Walker 3 years ago.

With only an 8 year age gap between Chris Moyles and Chris Evans, surely the BBC is taking the mickey.
And taking into account Shaun Keaveney on 6Music, there's not going to be much choice music/personality wise unless you're in favour of the slightly laddish stuff.
