As far as radio shows go, I'm pretty much sorted for the rest of the year
with the last three on CSR before Christmas all in running order.
There's quite a lot of music from the year gone by that I've reluctantly
removed from the final show of 2011, by turning it into a programme
showcasing "the ones that got away", a selection of superb soulful offerings
that I haven't actually yet played on Canterbury's airwaves.
One LP I was not so reluctant to give the heave-ho on the other
hand was Cliff Richard's "Soulicious", an uninspiring selection
of soul "standards" with established and respected vocalists,
but at the end of the day it's still bloody grimacing Cliff, whatever.
None worse than this run of the mill cover of Womack And Womack's
"Teardrops", proving that Candi Staton can do worse than allow her song
"You Got The Love" to be changed countless times beyond recognition
from how it was 25 years ago.
As for a more superior cover of "Teardrops" look no further than
Joey Negro's impressive take on the Lovestation cover from the late 90s.
