One of my televisual fears has been realised tonight, as it's been
revealed that 10 O'Clock Live will be returning for a second series next year.
Guardian Article
Thankfully they have made a few changes with the show running time
reduced from an hour to 45 minutes, and the number of episodes
in the series reduced to 10.
If any sections should be kept on, "Listen To Mitchell" would be at
the top of the list along his interviews with key figures, Charlie
Brooker's rants, and Jimmy Carr's rundown of the headlines.
The sketches with Carr dressing in drag, and Lauren Laverne's
propoganda pieces however would fall into the category of otherwise.
The reduced number of episodes is also an advantage as they definitely
looked like they were struggling to come up with witty material
over the course of 15 weeks, and by the final show it looked like they
didn't care.
I know understand why I was stupid to suggest that topical comedy/panel
shows should run every week, and having split series of shows such
as Mock The Week allows it to stay consistent, save for the odd rotten plum
of a show.
In a desperate attempt to drag the blogpost to a radio topic, it's worth
mentioning Elvis Duran and the Z Morning Zoo who this week are broadcasting
to New York from the UK, to coincide with Duran's masterclass at the
Radio Festival in Salford.
In this audio, courtesy of Neal Bowden's Aircheck Downloads, it's rather
shocking to hear "colourful" language uttered, and even more so considering
it's the guest Keith Pringle turning the air blue and no one batting an eyelid.
No wonder most of our breakfast shows on UK shores are pale in comparison.
