In The Can!

After listening to Tony Blackburn, I tuned in to Robbie Vincent's weekly helping of Sunday morning soul where there were some top tunes including Donald Byrd's "Think Twice" as covered by Ralph Myerz, Kool and The Gang's "Funky Stuff" and the Brothers Johnson cover of "Strawberry Letter 23".
I prefer the Shuggie Otis version however, which was introduced to me nearly two years ago when the Funk Soul Nation team included it within their show during the Music Radio module and they positioned it near the end of the show which was a superb tune to finish with.

There were also a few seasonal tunes such as the late Grover Washington Jnr's take on "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" and Ella Fitzgerald's "Silent Night" which would show Alexandra something. Although I wouldn't mind if either of them were at my door singing that song around this time of year.

The highlight however was a smooth jazz stunner from saxophonist Donald Harrison who's a new name to me but has been around for quite a while as the track that was played proved. The tune in question was "Tropic Of Cool" and the reason it sounded so good was that it was written by guitarist Chuck Loeb and contained synth pizzicato strings that really proved to be another one of those of their time stunners.

At around 1pm I headed over to radio where Sirin and Northern Dave were present editing their features. The plan was to listen back to the current edit over the big speakers in the studio but the computer in Studio 6 is fucked as everytime I turn up it's fader it makes a dreadful distortion noise.
I went into 5 where a mic had gone missing for whatever reason so I went into the booth and took one from there which I hope will cover us and stop the techies from having a whinge.

As I listened to the the feature I made notes on what parts should have their volume levels altered and I went back into the SADiE room to make those finishing touches.
At this point Caroline, Chris, Phil H and Denis had arrived although Stewart's not too well having appeared to be one of the worst ones affected by the lergy that's going round.

They were pretty distracting as well as I was trying to correct the volume levels but I did it in the end and it's just about completed and ready to burn to CD.

Chris couldn't stop singing "Hallelujah" from last night's X Factor and has actually downloaded a copy of the Alexndra's single, although it also appears that Jeff Buckley's version will hit the top 10 and possibly Leonard Cohen's original.

Denis on the other hand made a start on editing his feature on ticket touts which may feature a few football songs including the infamous "Football Crazy". However with everything sorted I headed off to Nisa to buy some fizzy stuff and long grain rice for tonight and now I'm about to sit back and watch one of the best family pictures from the last 40 years.

To give you a few further clues it really would look perverted nowadays if an older man addressed children by whistling.
