My first visit to the Lyndhurst primary school and their station Grove FM went rather well where I taught four of the pupils how to make basic station idents by using Audacity and recording their voices into portable MP3 recorders.
It was definitely an enjoyable session with them, and the idea of letting them get on with it seemed to work well as they knew what they were doing and were happy with their results.
When I come back next week we'll probably look at slightly more advanced idents such as tagged beds and music tracks, and as it progresses I hope to adapt what they've done into tools they can actually use on air as well as showing them how to do the introduce and forward promote items.
Enjoyable as it is, I'm not sure about me being addressed as "Mr Blamires" but I wouldn't want to go down the route of Stewart Lee's character in the Teachers sketches from "Fist Of Fun" where he acted all trendy by decorating his classroom with Reservoir Dogs posters and bringing in Crowded House CDs.
Overall it's probably more a case of me learning more about Audacity than showing them how to produce station audio.
