I've spent most of tonight viewing what many would consider to be the most embarrasing awards ceremony to have taken place, The 1989 Brit Awards as hosted by Mick Fleetwood and Sam Fox.
Whoever thought they would be the ideal pairing to host the ceremony definitely had the wrong idea as their lack of chemistry as well as missed cues and people coming on stage at the wrong times resulted in this being one of the most infamous pieces of television in the last 20 years.
Examples included Boy George coming on stage instead of the Four Tops, Ronnie Wood and Bill Wyman completely lost during their presentation and Kenneth Baker MP being booed by the audience. The part that I find confusing however is the inclusion of a classical category which is ridiculous as during the nominations the only music that's played is Handel's Messiah which goes on to win the award.
Whilst the presenting side of the awards crashes on it's backside, the actual bands and performances themselves aren't too bad at all with Gloria Estefan, Yazz, Fairground Attraction and Bros amongst those showing that 1988 was pretty good year for music overall.
It's also worth pointing out that not one act from Stock Aitken and Waterman's
Hit Factory even come close to recieving an award!
