Another interesting find in the form of Challenge Anneka from 1992 where Anneka's given 3 days to produce a tape of children's songs and verses performed by established performers in aid of a charity dealing with premature births.
Anneka along with Dave the soundman and the buggy manage to get hold of
George Martin, fresh from an appearance on the South Bank Show to oversee the entire project with those taking part including Joanna Lumley, Nannette Newman and her daughter Emma Forbes, Julia Fordham, Paul Nicholas performing "The Frog's Chorus", the underrated Beverley Craven to give a rendition of "Hush Little Baby" and the rather underused Phillip Schofield although in all fairness he was appearing in Joseph at the time.
Also appearing are Right Said Fred with Mike Read performing "My Old Man's A Dustman",
Sonia having to rush through a rendtion of "Who's Afraid of The Big Bad Wolf" and
an appearance from Herbie Flowers who composed and performed the bassline for
Lou Reed's "Walk On The Wildside" and to a lesser extent, Clive Dunn's "Grandad".
I happen to have one of the tracks included on the tape, that being Timmy Mallet's version of "The Laughing Policeman" as if the original version couldn't be bad enough.
Unsurprisingly Tony Blackburn wasn't one of those approached to record on the tape having spent the early 80s having to play many of those said tunes as part of Radio 1's Junior Choice much to his chagrin.
This from a man who considers Jane McDonald to be "sensational".
