Looking Back Further Than The Sun

My comments on the last blog post about Smoke being at it's best this year seem to be going even further having heard the live coverage of the
"Smoke Live" event at the Undercroft tonight.

If they keep things up to these standards, then there's no knowing where it will go to next.

All the fun of the Undercroft brought onto the station's airwaves, fulfilling the aim of showing what the University's really about in terms of having fun.

Happy times indeed.

Modules may not be good, but station wise, things are very positive.

In short, I'm missing the fun times but as long as everyone else is happy
then that's OK.

Again in terms of the current committee at the station the proverb
"the more the merrier" definitely seems to be ringing true.

No drinking buddies or slackers, just people who enjoy what they're doing
in their respective roles and it shows through.

And they're all nice guys too, which is also good.

Back in "ever exciting" Canters, I managed to get my Christmas shopping done.

Whilst going through the high street, there was a sax player performing a medley of various seasonal tunes including the unusual choice of
"Merry F****ng Christmas" as sung by Mr Garrison on the South Park
Xmas episode from 10 years ago.

It more less proves that Matt and Trey definitely knew what made a great Xmas song melodically, even if the lyrics are rather coarse.

It certainly proved even further when the movie got nominated for an Oscar under the Best Song category.

I reckon that animated sitcoms are overlooked for the amount of effort that goes into musical numbers with both that, The Simpsons, and Family Guy, especially with regards to the latter where Cleveland Brown has recently duetted with Earth Wind And Fire for a seasonal offering.

I may play that again on the radio show this week, judging by the reaction it got from those listening, and that I won't get another chance to play it considering it's the last proper show before Xmas.

Gavin and Stacey proved hilarious tonight, solely for the scene with Bryn dancing in the nightclub.

It's speeding by quite a bit, although the last episode of the series goes out at the same time as Channel 4's Big Fat Quiz of 2009 which Brydon will also be appearing in.

In fact they're showing all previous quizzes from 2005 in the run up to the show on New Year's Day although I probably won't make the effort
to view them all, as I still have all of them from the last 6 years on VHS
and have watched them umpteen times.

And they still make me laugh, proving that Wossy and his wife came up with what I'd say has to be one of the best television shows of the decade.

Hopefully UKNova will reseed them as it would be nice to have them in digital form on DVD-R.

Tomorrow sees me make my final visit to Ashford for this year and as it's nearing Christmas I may bring a few extra things with me in addition to the mince pies that Des is planning to bring along.

I saw what looked like some delcious giant wine gums in The Works in Canterbury this afternoon and that would definitely be a lovely addition to proceedings.

Not so good on my perspective when I'm worried about going high again.

Mum and Dad are away tomorrow evening so I may sort out a chicken stew with pasta to enjoy in front of Apollo and Have I Got News For You hosted this week by Dominic West from The Wire with Reginald D Hunter as a panellist.

The best telly month of the year is continuing, nuff said.
