Before I forget, I thought it would be worth posting this blog post from
radio and television presenter Nino Firetto, formerly of Thames Television's
"Magpie for the mid 80s" magazine show Splash!, and a one time presenter
and producer at Invicta FM in the early 90s.
My TV Career - An Edited Life Story - By Nino Firetto
Although telly is the major focus, it more or less goes to show
that there's no such thing as job security in the media.
Now running a casting agency, it's commendable of Firetto to share
his experiences, but a more worrying issue is that regarding today's
celebrity culture and X Factor overdoses, there needs to be a lot more
explanation to those who thirst for fame, about how short-lived success
can be and that the fall can be very painful.
Even on a low level in my case (and you really can't get lower than that)
you get carried away, and whilst at University I got far too content with
how things were, reluctant to change or evolve with regards to the
wider world of radio.
Thankfully with my involvement at CSR running all the time and not just
term time (save for the current Christmas break), I'm now starting
to focus more on what my next show will sound like all the time, rather
than clinging onto what I thought was my previous "fantastic" show from
the week before.
And hopefully by beginning to do more things outside of radio, I'll
have a lot more to think about rather than one long thought dominating
my mindset.
