Live Planning

Very busy day in radio, I was up in RP1 between 9am and 9pm but the main difference today was that I actually managed to achieve something out of it!

I spent the morning getting all the audio for tomorrows pilot and listening to the other groups pilot of Soul Funk Nation which took place between 12 and 2. There show was done in the style of 102.2. Smooth FM and whilst everything technically flowed smoothly, the music side of things was rather laid back with not enough funk tracks which didn't flow too well alongside Ricky's slick and enthusiastic presentation style. The ads produced by the group however were impressive including an ad for Madame Tussauds done in the style of Family Fortunes but the highlight had to be this sung ID for the show which could have been used a lot more!

Around late afternoon early evening myself and Ina started to work on the show running order from our schedule on Selector which we finally got sorted with the help of Ricky. It took us about three hours to finally complete it accurately with the timings although we were told not to rely on it too much as last minute changes can happen within a live show. However overall I'm really confident about the pilot show tomorrow after practising a few links including a rather overblown intro!

Kelly from the first year popped up to the radio studios earlier this evening along with a few mates and was encouraging me to go to tonight's Lock and Key night at Area although I'm still undecided on whether I should go. The majority of the nights at Area this year with a few exceptions have been an absolute disaster which is probably due to the club shutting down for the alleged refurbishment at the beginning of the year. Even the Uni venues manager was on Goodlass and Marshall's show on Smoke yesterday attempting to plug tonights event but I'm not sure if it's worth paying the rather steep price. Far gone are the days when attending Area on a Thursday night was compulsory which is a pity.

I may be tempted to go for free drinks at Phil's flat beforehand for the second night running, only this time going easy on the flour!
