Another long day spent sorting things out for tomorrow's show and once again the facilities were rammed. Thankfully they sorted the stack issue from last night meaning that Studio 6 was working again meaning I could listen to the other groups Funk Soul Nation show. Overall it went well as Ricky sounded a lot more relaxed and technically things went pretty well most of the time. One key difference was that this week they used genuine phone calls for the competitions where after the previous caller had failed to guess the correct answer in their competition they got Mal the Radio Journalism lecturer to play the part of a caller called "Steve" although it was heavilly overracted and Ricky ended up naming the caller as Mal on air!
The music contained a bit more funk alongside the soulful stuff although I thought there could have been more contemporary songs included and Matthew wasn't sure about the inclusion of songs by the Drifters and "Da Doo Ron Ron" by the Crystals.
It felt good however when after playing a Kenny Thomas track Ricky mentioned that he was the support act for Level 42 on their tour last year!
All the jingles and commercials have been completed for my group as has the running order which contains a brilliant selection of tunes with artists as diverse as The Mersey Beats and Talk Talk, and we finally managed to find out how to set the rules for Selector, i.e no more than 2 male artists back to back etc.
I'd best make get writing the critical report which to be honest I should have started weeks ago but that's how things are for me when it comes completing vital tasks.
