Raucously Retro

The pilot for the Retro Room took to the skies and was a great opportunity for us to see what could work and what wouldn't work as well as it could for our assesed show next week. The first few links were rather nervous with Selector only playing the final 10 seconds of the tracks that were scheduled which messed up our running order for the first hour. During the feedback Sue suggested that rather than mention the artist and song title before and after a track, I should tease the listeners by starting the song off by saying something along the lines of "do you remember this one from 1982?". I had opposing views to making my links sound as contrived as that but I do need to be slicker with my segueways.

The main talking point was the live link up to the band performing in the basement as they weren't the greatest of interviewees and the mics were set up incorectly for one of the songs. There was also the debate on making sure there would be better communication between the studio and the live room as studio producer Ina got into a bit of a panic when I moved one of the songs earlier in the running order due to my mishap with Master Control meaning that we had to cut one of the OB links to two minutes.
The positive feedback we got included the brilliantly produced and put together ads which fitted in well with the Capital Gold format and there should be more to come by next week in time for the assesed show.

I need to spend more time however liasing with Ina and the music producers to make sure there's a fairer quota of male and female artists so I'll meet up with one Nina, one of the music producers on Monday to give her a hand adding a few late 80s tracks to the playlist along the lines of Level 42, Bananarama, Yazz and Lisa Stansfield. Overall I thought todays effort was superb.

Just returned from Harrow where I've managed to book tickets for Hot Fuzz. I also managed to bump into Heena from BXFM whilst waiting at Northwick Park station and she's doing OK, still working in Levis at Brent Cross. Hopefully she hasn't had any more nasty experiences getting her feet trapped in storage boxes.
A bit of a dilemma has arisen regarding Hot Fuzz at the VUE as my tickets are booked for 9:30 at Screen 4 although Chris, Phil etc have are booked in at the same time but in screen 3! We may head over early however to see if I we can pull a few strings if we arrive early enough as there are no seat reservations on the tickets. Not before yet another visit to Flat 68!
