A lot of people have been recovering from the excitement of last nights awards but a few people have been more than energised to come in and celebrate it all by presenting their shows as usual. These included Matt and Rob who managed to get some superb audio of Dan collecting his award last night played out on their show, and Dean, Rich and Troy who presented their Smoke Review show.
Even more suprising were Jamie and the Show 25 boys who I heard had turned up at 10am to record this Sunday's show which I was impressed with considering they got back at the same time as me travelling on the same nightbus together.
Overall it's been a rather quiet day spent up there turning WAV files into MP3s and finding out a few more stories of what happened at last night's awards.
One of them apparently involved Phil Landers insulting one of the big bosses from Global Radio which I was rather stunned about but it appears to be true judging by Phil's current Facebook status.
Also when the nominations for best station were annouced the stations were accompanied by one of their own produced idents and I could barely tell the difference in style between each one, especially those with male voices.
It definitely explains why Marketing and Branding is a tough category to win although it's made me realise that our current station idents with Fiz and Sophie Clamp voicing them probably aren't so bad after all as their voices stand out even if they are a bit "street" or so to say.
However, with regards to an earlier post here are a few examples of current tunes from the last year or so blended in with jingles by TM Century for KIIS FM Los Angeles back in the 90s that I reckon really work well together, especially the one with Estelle.
Although student radio has tighter budgets, many of the bigger commercial stations in the UK would definitely benefit and sound better if they took on a similar move.
As for tonight I plan to enjoy a rather nice chicken stew with penne pasta after the rather rotten meal we had at the awards yesterday. As well as that I may spend the rest of the night watching tonight's Have I Got News For You, and catching up with the comedy that was on last night such as Buzzcocks and Ponderland.
I hope to get my critical report done this weekend although I also need to sort out my washing and buy an SD card for my Bug as I really should make use of it to record shows off the radio.
