It really wasn't a good idea not to get any shut eye this morning. It may be what's resulted in me being in a bit of a negative mood over certain issues regarding the station and being just really down overall.
The biggest fear is having to present tonight's Soul Show from the smaller studio in order to avoid the risk of the petty techies taking us off the air because people keep pissing about with equipment in the bigger studios, i.e. microphones being repostioned etc.
I know we should be grateful for having a studio built specially for us but with a CD player that's on the same fader as Hotkeys, I'm not happy. The only way around it for me would be to schedule my jingles on Master Control although I won't go into too much detail to avoid boring anyone reading who isn't as familar with radio playouts. I'll try and work my way round it although if worse comes to worse, I'll bring my laptop with me and play all the music via the mini-jack and it would save quite a bit of bob on CDs too.
Computers really have ruined the individuality of radio as back in the days of cart machines, presenters would have the choice of choosing jingles that would work well into a song melodically, especially as they're sung jingles.
I was having a play about earlier with some TM Century KIIS FM jingles from the early 90s mixing them with current hits such as Pink and Estelle and they really worked well together.
I may upload a few examples later.
But overall this is really not the sort of motivation, in fact it's not motivation full stop, ahead of tomorrow night's Student Radio Awards.
It's supposed to be a celabratory night for goodness sake but if I get fed up with those I'm sharing a table with, then the after party with our late arrivals should lift things up.
Then again that's always been the case at University over the years.
