a more significant day for television fans of a crazed manner.
Yes, at 7pm on the 18th of February 1985, BBC 1 introduced
a computer generated globe to replace it's mechanical mirror
model, known in TVC as COW - Computer Originated World
and for me will always be the defining BBC 1 ident.

So simple yet memorable.
The reason it was introduced at 7pm after the regional news,
was to herald the entrance of Wogan, which would be going out
on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays whilst Eastenders would
look after the timeslots on the two remaining weekdays in
BBC 1's new evening schedule.
The COW globe was later adapted by BBC Video for their idents
between 1988 and 1991 and what I'd say were the
BBC's best for their video releases.
Of course fellow obsessives may argue otherwise.
That aside it will always be one of my iconic television images.
