So, blog post 3001 and what better way to start off with another
visit back to the era of television at it's finest.
From the 30th of December 1989 a selection of links from
"Gone Live!" the pre-recorded Christmas edition of the
Saturday morning show with Phillip and Sarah at the helm
along with the duo who Radio 1's Greg James claims to be the
original John and Edward.
Only a lot funnier.
For added "anticipation" the end credits of Thundercats are included
in the first minute.
It would be customary for one of the shows broadcast in the
Christmas holidays to be pre-recorded hence the show being called
"Gone Live!".
With Live and Kicking it would be known as
"Almost Live, Definitely Kicking" which would often involve
the show going on location.
As always it's the really tiny unnoticeable things that I bizarrely take
notice of and really date the clip perfectly, such as the bit with
Trevor and Simon at 3:39 being accompanied by a variation of
Starlight's "Numero Uno", one of the more popular dance records of
the year that became forgotten about shortly after.
Best of all however are the titles to Peter Simon's Double Dare
at 4:42, and uploader Chriddof mentions that he plans to
upload the full show which I'm hoping will be the case.
To think all of that happened 21 years ago really is shocking.
It feels a hell of a lot longer.
Also, it's rather embarrassing, but comparing everything in that above
video with any episode of the most recent series of TMi will have
me in tears when comparing them together.
Even Reggie Yates's "Mighty Truck Of Stuff" was a lot better
than their effort.
And yet that concept was "stolen" from Chris Moyles's
Red Nose Rally, although in all fairness if such an idea works
better on television, then half inching it is perfectly justified.
Best not to get too bogged down, it will only get me more downhearted,
ahead of an otherwise rather busy week leading up to the London
visit on Saturday.
