"I Know Where The Soul Is At" (In The Radio Times It Seems)

Rather full up as I type as I've just finished yet another mixture of meaty
stuff and tangy liquid with dischi pasta.

The plan for tonight is to head up to the Gulbenkian where
I shall be seeing Irish comic Jason Byrne performing, and if his
set on Apollo was anything to go by, it should be even better in a
no-holds-barred manner.

It may mean that I miss tonight's Newswipe so I'm hoping that
gets on iPlayer in good timing but there's also Act Your Age
on Radio 4 as well which according to Simon Mayo himself
is the funniest of the series.

I'm looking forward to next week even more however as not only
is Roy Walker back as a captain, but one of the guests on the "current crop"
team will be noneother than John Bishop.

I used to get him confused with fellow captain Jon Richardson but
I now know who's funnier by a very long shot if Richardson's
embarassing appearances on Buzzcocks/HIGNFY are anything to go by.

I was also rather pleased to see Peter Young finally featured in Radio Times'
"Face Behind The Voice" column after being referred in there quite a few
times recently including by former Capital colleague Gary Crowley.

I've gone on about him many a time but he's one of the few people
in radio who's always had a passion for music which oozes through
the airwaves without looking false, and with no ambition of wanting to
become a gameshow host or have their own chat show on television.

And to think that the Soul Cellar started off as an antidote to the
dominating disco records and is now one of the longest running features
is an achievement if ever.

Especially as the stuff PY has been playing from the 60s is a lot
more timeless that most of the soul records being issued in 1979
even if I have a crazy penchant myself for anything around that era.

Now that man really is the luckiest fella in radio.
