I've finished revisting all 10 episodes of "Badger Girl" which has
all the conventions of a typical BBC children's drama from the 80s
where well spoken child actors were pretty much put aside.
Well not altogether, there was still stuff like "Box Of Delights",
and "Chronicles Of Narnia" but it proved that regional accents
were not omitted from our screens.
As is always the case the music's worth mentioning where
in this story it sounds like a song that John and Vangelis
rejected.
The composer it turns out was Peter Howell, the man responsible
for the 1980-1985 version of the Doctor Who theme.
What many fans of the original series would suggest is the best
re-arrangement.
The plot of Badger Girl of two people from the city taking a break
in rural settings has prompted me to dig out a film with an
identical plot, made not long after only this time, the two
main characters are on their own and have no idea what they're
doing in the country.
Yes, it's Withnail and I and this time I plan to watch it with the
commentary by director Bruce Robinson which I've never heard before.
It's quite a tricky film to get into first time round although I was
mainly drawn into it by the shouty swearing as you'd expect and
the gritty shooting style.
And that quite a few of the scenes are shot in suburban London
which also helps.
Most of the fans enjoy the film for it's quotes and random lines
which will confuse many an outsider as those from an episode
of Friends.
However on the subject of the latter, October 2011 will be a
happier time and further proof that it will be safe to watch
Channel 4 on a long term basis again.
