The Academic Year In Aural Form

Whilst the majority of my blog posts this year have been endless tangents about music from many moons ago, I thought that with the end of the year approaching it would be a good time to list the many tunes that have helped define 2006-2007. Most of them were released within the two years although I have included a few classic tracks that have been given a new lease of life for many bizarre reasons. No soul records are included either as I'm saving them for another post!

Here goes...

Scissor Sisters - I Don't Feel Like Dancin'

Lily Allen - LDN

Killers - When You Were Young

Beyonce - Irreplacable

Justin Timberlake - Sexy Back/My Love

David Guetta Vs The Egg - Love Don't Let Me Go

Nelly Furtado - Promiscuous

Kasabian - Empire/Shoot The Runner

Bob Sinclar - Rock This Party

David Hasslehoff - Jump In My Car

Razorlight - America

Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger

Muse - Starlight/Knights Of Cydonia (The latter being one of the finest intros to a record this year!)

Bedouin Soundclash - When The Night Feels My Song

All Saints - Rocksteady

The View - Superstar Tradesman/Same Jeans

Amy Winehouse - Rehab/You Know I'm No Good/Back To Black (and a very flamboyant performance on Never Mind The Buzzcocks!)

Peter, Bjorn And John - Young Folks/Let's Call It Off

Fedde Le Grande - Hands Up For Detroit/Creeps

Jamiroquai - Runaway

Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly - War Of The Worlds

Akon - Smack That

Take That - Patience/Shine

Booty Luv - Boogie 2Nite

Bodyrox - Yeah Yeah

Mika - Grace Kelly (and the majority of the album)

Just Jack - Starz In Their Eyes

Nas - Hip Hop Is Dead

Klaxons - Golden Skans/Gravity's Rainbow (and loving their cover of Grace's "Not Over Yet")

Eric Prydz Vs Floyd - Proper Education

Mason - (Perfect) Exceeder

Jojo - Too Little Too Late

Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby/Everything Is Average Nowadays

The Fray - How To Save A Life

Kelis Feat. Cee-Lo - Lil' Star

Gossip - Standing In The Way Of Control (and I'll try and avoid making comments about the lead singer)

Gwen Stefani - The Sweet Escape

Faithless - Insomnia (an Undercroft/Area anthem!)

Alex Gaudino - Destination Calibria

Maximo Park - Our Velocity

Calvin Harris - Acceptable In The 80s/Girls

Christina Aguilera - Candyman

Fergie - Glamourous

The Proclaimers featuring Brian Potter & Andy Pipkin - (I'm Gonna Be) 500 Miles

Lion - Transformers Theme

Mark Ronson - Version (Best Album Of The Year?)

Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend (that will always remind me of Ali dancing around RP-1 from now on!)

Gym Class Heroes - Cupid's Chokehold

Akon - Don't Matter

Marroon 5 - Make's Me Wonder

Ne-Yo - Because Of You

Manics/Nina Persson - You're Love Alone Is Not Enough (their catchiest one so far?)

Amerie - Take Control

Mims - This Is Why I'm Hot (a record that represents everything bad about urban music)

Groove Armada - Get Down

Booty Luv - Shine (Moto Blanco Edit)

Sophie Ellis Bextor - Me And My Imagination

Beyonce And Shakira - Beautiful Lie

Love them or hate them, these and many others that I've forgotten to list will be an essential reminder of the last 9 months in lovely Harrow.
