A Hopeful Lie In

Another day nearing an end in the studios, we've had the usual set of first years present who spent most of the day making prank phone calls to shed providers and conservatory companies.
They've all gone to see the Spiderman movie although I may be taking a more relaxed route tonight.

Bill Bailey's in the chair for tonight's edition of Have I Got News For You and there's a couple of potentially good guests in the form of Armando Iannucci and Adam Buxton, one half of the underrated comic duo Adam and Joe. A lot of people from Uni will be seeing Bill Bailey at Wembley in November which will be much needed comic relief for when I'm doing my advanced radio feature. As of now ideas are lacking.

Tomorrow however after putting it off for long enough I'll be making a start on the viewing of the DVDs I have of The Chart Show starting off with the most recent edition from the 2nd of May 1998.
I remember that edition well as it was the day after Top Of The Pops on BBC 1 had relaunched with a remix of the Led Zeppelin theme and that ridiculous logo which was around the time I had started to go off the programme completely.
I never bothered comparing both programmes as they were different types of music shows on television and not scheduled up against each other. Then again videos are more visually interesting than repetitive performances with the same three walls and camera angles.
That's probably why I never got into CD:UK in such a way, despite it being more respectable than TOTP, and the comments in this article from Off The Telly really highlight on why it was an inferior replacement to The Chart Show.

I very much doubt that the show would have even survived without SM:tv being on before it. There's barely been a reason to get up since Ant & Dec's well timed departure from Saturday mornings.
