Handing In The Towel (With A Fair Dose Of Foam)

Despite a less crowded turn out than the previous one, last night's foam party was a much needed excuse to let my hair down (and get it soaked) after another busy day in radio. Not many of the radio lot were actually down there apart from Kelly serving drinks, Dan P on the decks with his DJ partner Fish, and Sean the Irish charmer made a return as part of the sports tour reunion that also took place yesterday.

Also in attendance were Deepa and Decio, Emma, Bracey and the rest of the Buffers and Penny and Eleri who this time wasn't pulling the pints. I stuck around for plenty of drenchings with a rather dodgy mixture of the smoke machine, whilst the music that was played was on top form with a mash up of "Synth And Strings" by Yomanda blended with "You Make Me Feel" by disco drag queen Sylvester. I left at around 1am to attempt to get some shut eye before tomorrow but I ended up being awake at around 4:30 and am now up in the Harrow library.

Before the messy antics I stopped off at the Undercroft where all the sports teams were present celebrating Pigeon's 20th birthday and I managed to get some really nice compliments from those who listened to the previous night's soul show. George from the hockey team was there with Pippa C's flatmate Lucy and he was a bit peeved about not being invited to go with her as her partner to tonight's Smoke Radio awards.

However I also had quite a few chats to people about my worries about the third year and whether I can still stay involved with the station.
After having a long thought about it throughout the night I've decided that from today I will be putting my production duties for Smoke Radio to one side. I think it's best to quit whilst your ahead and I feel I've got tons of material that would sell well on an audio demo if I wanted to make a career out of this. The other reason is that it would be the right time to let someone else from the first year have a go as they will be running the station next year and it will be easier for them to stay in contact with the station managers and keep the station sound consistent from Fresher's Week into the first semester.

I still plan to be involved with big events such as Fresher's Week itself before and after my assignments, and will lend a hand if needed but I feel that now is the right time to start distancing myself from being heavilly involved in the station and concentrate on just doing the soul show and focusing more on getting my degree completed.
However with Tim from last year being an example I know that it's still possible to balance studies with social activity and I doubt my presence at the Undercroft on Monday night will start to become less regular whatever happens. It's just one night of the week and I don't want to become more dull than I'm percieved to be.
