Decoding Fear And Panic

Early start again to begin writing my Media Events essay where I'm currently just over 700 words. I was lucky enough to find a reconstruction of "Broadcasting From The Barricades" from 1926 on one of the BBC's web pages which was very helpful although it was rather risky at the time to do a mock news bulletin to a rather sensitive audience. The broadcast involved breaking news about a riot group protesting about unemployment who proceeded to destroy the houses of Parliament, blow up the Savoy Hotel where the BBC's live band were performing and then headed to Broadcasting House.

I managed to watch "Ghostwatch" last night which had similar consequences but this time in the form of a live documentary hosted by Michael Parkinson and assisted by Mike Smith and his wife Sarah Greene. Sarah was on location at a house in Northolt and ended up being trapped inside it whilst a seance was created in the studio. This was even more dangerous as it included phone calls that in some places were just nonsense but at times sounded very frightening from viewers whose clocks had stopped at 9:30 when the programme was transmitted and had glass breaking in their houses.

It was even risky to include the phone number for viewers which was the same one as Going Live!, "0-8-1, 8-1-1, 8-1-8-1 Yeaah!" although it didn't have it done as a rap like on the said show.
I can remember when that phone number started being used on CBBC and presenters Andi Peters and Phillipa Forrester had trouble reading it on air despite it's familiarity with viewers, resulting in it being read out as "0 Eighty One, Eighty One One, Eighty One Eighty One".

With a bit of luck this Events essay should be done by Monday although tonight it's Ross Tilley's 20th birthday do taking place at PercyLou's or to give it it's real name flat 307A. I've already brought some rasperrry Breezers which I'm hoping won't get stolen as I doubt they'll have any other drinks on offer that I like.
