The studio situation tonight was an absolute nightmare, Steve asked me to help two people record their first show in Studio 5 this evening but Nina had taken the studio two minutes beforehand to record hers. This meant we had to move the live shows into Studio 4 so we could use 6 to pre-rec. Everything ran pretty smoothly until 8pm when Adam arrived to do the Shuffle show where we had a bloody nightmare operating the CD players and the badly arranged studio desk. Poor Adam was struggling to keep up with things especially as one of the CD players doesn't have an LCD display interface preventing us from seeing the track numbers and time remaining.
Luckily I kept an eye to see when Studios 5 and 6 would become free so about 20 minutes into the show we moved back to home turf where things ran a hell of a lot more coherently. I really felt sorry for Adam as he was on his own tonight due to Zo being on holiday although he had brought a friend from Norway to watch him go through the proceedings. However this just goes to show that Studio 4 needs a hell of a lot of improvement and really doesn't work practically for a show that relies heavilly on using CDs with large track numbers. Whether people need more training to use the equipment is irrelevant as it's a bugger to keep up when multi-tasking when everything is poorly laid out.
On a lighter note I found out when leaving the studios that Adam had managed to spot me in a short film made by a few of his CMP students which they produced for an editing exercise. Basically this involved me getting out of a bed in the room of one of my flatmates and going into their shower without a t-shirt on. Luckily I had only just woken up when they shot the scene which helped add to the presence of the film although we had to do quite a lot of re-takes due to the wrong lens constantly being put on to the camera!
