If any ITV company made good use of animated graphics then Yorkshire Television had to be one of the finest. The broadcaster was only too happy to show off its efforts in this little package put together in 1988 showing off the variety of animations made not just for the station's programmes but for various promotions used throughout the ITV Network.
Accompanying the bright colours is a 1988 style version of "Jingo" by Candido and plenty of gems are included such as Countdown, Calendar and the original Through The Keyhole which I haven't seen for so many years. I'd love to see a full edition from that era just to hear the rather synthy musical stings that precceeded Loyd Grossman pottering round a minor celebrities house.
Nowadays anything heavy on synths of a televisual nature for me is an ideal method of comedy as found out whilst going through the many royalty free CDs during the podcasting module earlier in the year.
If I remember correctly fellow student Paul Calvert described them as
"eighties music gone wrong" whilst Tudor was certain that even in the decade itself people would have thought "this is too eighties for us".
A good example which proves a point would be when the audience would react in an amused manner to the music that played whenever a contestant lost the Gold Run on Blockbusters.
For me this probably highlights another of my passions, colourful graphics with just as colourful music to match.
