Virtual Throwback

I've just had a pop over to the Digital Spy forums and it appears the rumours have been confirmed. A message from Matt at the Vault has said that the channel will no longer be showing the classic countdowns of yesteryear on the channel which makes me feel a bit happier about not sloshing a large amount of cash on a Sky Digibox.

It's not all doom and gloom as James2001 has uploaded another vintage episode onto Youtube which will end up in my archive, this time from January 1996. The opening titles from this period have to be my favourite from the 91-96 era, set in a city made up of musical instruments and I particuarly like the self playing piano towards the end!
And the logo finally smashes to pieces as well in the traditional style!

Around this time we'd only just brought a VCR for our house although I never started recording episodes of the show until April when Live and Kicking came to an end for the summer. Quite lucky as well as there were only about two or three episodes shown before the big relaunch for the show's 10th anniversary. I'm rather gutted that I was careless enough to tape over all those episodes but you live and learn. Although as an aside it's hard to believe they were still using the Amiga point and click display as late as 1996.

This reminds me of when my elder cousins used to own an Atari ST which had some addictive games such as "Fantasy World Dizzy" where you played the role of an egg who had to collect coins in order to rescue his girlfirend Daisy. There was also James Pond which I've probably got on either my SNES or Mega Drive emulator which involved an underwater detective who could get harmed by just touching a starfish.
And those who say playing video games doesn't stimulate the mind, think on. I managed to grasp the rules of tennis by playing Pete Sampras Tennis on the Mega Drive.
I doubt it will convert me to watching the goings on at Mumbledon which begin on Monday.
