So it appears that Michael Parkinson is retiring from his chatshow after 25 years on and off.
To be honest the last few years haven't really had many stand out moments with the exception of wittier guests such as Dara O'Briain and Paul Merton who gave an interesting anecdote about how him and his writing partner Norman Lovett were watching Tommy Cooper die on stage.
Unsurprisingly some of my favourite moments on the show came from the many times when Bernard Manning appeared, including a toe curling (depending on your point of view) appearance third time round in 1977 where one of the guests was none other than Esther Rantzen.
As I'm not a fan of her myself it was amusing to see the comedian rip her to shreds when she questioned why he had to make jokes about minorities, which she had more than a right to ask.
However fellow guest Magnus Magnusson and the host himself ended up corpsing which in the case of the former Mastermind host was a rather rare sight on television in those days.
According to Bernard in a later interview, Esther's then husband the late Desmond Wilcox was one of the show's producers who set her up to nail him although it's not an easy task when you've got someone who will be able to respond to almost anything in an amusing manner.
Not a lot has happened today, I brought this weeks Radio Times which has another article on Doctor Who for the series finale this Saturday and I reckon I've developed a bit of a crush on Freema Agyeman.
Then again the reason I tend to have a female presenter helping me out on my radio show whenever there's a special event could be the same why the Doctor always has a companion "because he's lonely". Then again my preference for music and brightly coloured images and animations as opposed to socialising may be something that sticks with me for a very long time. I like the attention but I can't sustain such a thing for more than two hours at most.
But most of my favoured music signifies bright weather and smiling girls in brightly coloured clothes. And I like to think it's them playing the instruments in some cases with the soulful and jazzy stuff.
In other words my ideal fantasy would be all my passions in the same place at the same time. It's difficult to put such things into words.
