The Annual 1 Reshuffle

More possibly welcome changes have been announced at BBC Radio 1
(that's BBC Radio 1 as they have to refer to it on air and rightly so).

Newsbeat Article

The most important being the very long awaited departure of Jo Whiley from her mid-morning slot which to be honest I've never been a fan of as I find it rather false and pretty dull in terms of content.

Taking over from Jo will be Fearne Cotton which many will see as a questionable choice, especially considering Sara Cox stood in for the majority of Jo's maternity leave but then again it may be the BBC bosses taking age into account, whilst denying it at the same time of course.

Then again they probably have an excuse for Radio 1 as it is aimed at a younger audience whereas television is more of a different story.

I'm not too fussed anyway as Fearne's best mate will be on television at the same time as her Radio 1 show.

Even better is that Edith Bowman's got booted from her afternoon slot and replaced by Greg James.

I may not be Greg's biggest fan but it sounds as if he's got a lot more to offer than Boreman, and according to the Newsbeat article, rather than just movie reviews, they will be introducing video game reviews in his show which I don't think they've done since Dominic Diamond used to do them with Steve Wright around 1993.

Taking over Greg's current early morning slot will be Dev from 1Xtra who's currently on Radio 1's Weekend Breakfast, which Edith will take over.

It begins in mid-September and whilst it's an improved line up, I doubt I'll be fully converted into listening to the station all the time.

But then again, in this day and age it's probably best if I don't commit myself to just one radio station continuously as it can lead to awkward situations in the long term.

I'm tempted to read Jo's recent book that's been published giving her own account on her life as a broadcaster and going back to a researcher on The Word where she brought us Nirvana amongst other bands. Thanks.

Even if she remains on the station in her new weekend afternoon slot, I doubt any bugger will make the effort to listen at that time.
