Comedy Consumerism

Last night's Mock The Week wasn't as good as the last show but there's always the reassurance that an otherwise run of the mill programme will be saved by the final round.

This week they had to make suggestions for "Unlikely Things To Hear On A Consumer Programme" where there were several digs at the presenters of such shows;

"At first the company seemed willing to compromise,
but when we sent them a letter from Nicky Campbell they told us to fuck off"

Oddly enough that joke didn't come from Frankie Boyle.

Several people posting on discussion boards think that Frankie doesn't seem to let the others get a word in edgeways which is true to an extent and also seems to be the case on Charlie Brooker's show, but without him
Mock The Week would be nowhere near as funny, as the context of the final round shows that he can't necessarily repeat the jokes in the context of a stand up act.

I watched the final day of the live streaming on The Chris Moyles Show where in the second half of the Golden Hour, all the team members were in the mix attempting to blend in their selection of Ibiza dance tunes with amusing results.

Bizarrely enough Aled's was my favourite which was Yomanda's "Synth And Strings" which Westminster alumni Dan P once mentioned was the song he wanted played at his funeral.

They're off for two weeks with Scott covering next week, and Vernon Kay stepping in with Comedy Dave the week after. As mentioned quite a few times before, I'll take a break from the show until around November/December time when I will have hopefully finished my "side project" or over indulgent nonsense.

Not a lot happening tonight, although Kevin Bishop is back with a new series of his fast moving sketch show on Channel 4.

When shown last summer I thought it was OK but not really worthy of a second series.
I'll give the first episode a go but the show definitely represents the Guardian's reasoning that sketch shows on television are on a downwards spiral.

It's not as bad as Horne and Corden though.
