The Big Media Players

This week's Media Guardian supplement revealed 2009's 100 biggest players in the media, although like the X Factor Final, the Brits and so on, it feels as if the 2008 list was revealed just last week.

On that subject Cheryl Cole was one of those who was included alongside BBC 1 controller Jay Hunt, ITV's Peter Fincham, Stephen Fry, and Sky News' Adam Boulton.

Number 1 were Sergey Brin and Larry Page from Google just ahead of the BBC director general Mark Thompson, although the most interesting choices were David Mitchell, and actor Noel Clarke who's definitely progressed from his role as Mickey in Doctor Who.

Both of them are on Twitter so I guess that's also an advantage.

My plan for today is to finally get round to enduring the much talked about Michael Jackson memorial service on iPlayer with commentary from Trevor Nelson and Gambo. I'm guessing it may be the sort of thing viewed through my fingers judging by what I've heard about it so far.

Whilst I've been away from the station for almost two months, it's impossible to avoid the further devlopments to the new Smoke Radio website as Matt Garforth has been doing a really good job in the last couple of days as seen here.

The only thing that really needs altering are the reflections on the text number and Listen Live icon to be slightly distanced, but I like the idea as it reminds me of the old Thames Television ident from the 70s/80s which is rather relevant in terms of being based in London.

I forgot that Matt's official role is "Head Of Web And Multi-Platform" and considering that's the most dedication I've ever seen put into the Smoke Radio website, the new technical developments seem as if they will be a doddle.

Which also leads onto the much awaited publishing of the official video highlights of our 26 Hour Broadcast filmed and edited by James Neil, which is more or less proof why he deserved the Best Newcomer category at the awards.

The best bit has to be near the end with Oli P in the sound proof booth which I'd go as far as saying is the funniest thing ever associated with the station in the last 5 years.

The bad news is that he's still there for one more year, by the end of which he'll probably have strained his throat.
