As planned I had a gander at the 2009 Royal Rumble which was definitely entertaining in more ways than one.
The main storyline running involved Randy Orton beating up CEO Vince McMahon earlier that week and his career in the WWE on the line. Despite this and the absence of Mr McMahon he was guaranteed a place in the 30 man rumble.
The first match was between Matt Hardy and Jack Swagger for the ECW title, followed by the Women's Championship between Melina and defending champion Beth Phoenix.
Whenever the commentators referred to the latter, I thought they were talking about an erstwhile character from Coronation Street.
Melina ended up winning thankfully.
The third match was John Cena up against JBL for the WWE Heavyweight Championship where Jon "Bradshaw" Layfield was accompanied by his "employee" Shaun Michaels.
If JBL was to win the match then Shaun would be guaranteed a place in Wrestlemania where after the referee got knocked out, Shaun went into the ring and knocked out JBL, then John Cena but after a substitute referee entered the ring, Cena managed to kick out and regain the Heavyweight title.
Then came the Championship match between Jeff Hardy and Edge which saw the shocking moment where Jeff's brother Matt hit him with a chair out of the blue leaving everyone with their mouths open. As this was a no disqualification match the move was allowed but it was still very shocking.
The Royal Rumble match proved to be entertaining as always with the usual dosage of surprise appearances including a return for Rob Van Dam, and even more unexpected was Hacksaw Jim Duggan coming in as participant number 29.
My favourite part had to be when Santino Marella entered and lasted in the ring for just 1 and a half seconds after being thrown out by the Kane, which broke the record for the shortest time spent in the Rumble beating The Warlord in the second Rumble in 1989.
However towards the end it seemed to be a deviation from the "Every man for himself" rule as Randy Orton's victory was done with a bit of help from the other fighters in Randy's tag team "The Legacy".
After Triple H had thrown them all out leaving just him and Randy in the ring, Randy charged towards Hunter knocking him out of the ring hitting the floor, and making Randy the Number 1 contender for Wrestlemania where he later took on Triple H in the title match.
And lost.
As I type I'm listening to the first in Dave Pearce's "Disco Anthems" series on Radio 2 looking at the A-Z of disco records from the late 70s early 80s.
I'm not sure if I'll make it a regular date as each programme's only half an hour long and they've been playing the really obvious ones such as The Bee Gees, Chic, in fact it's not too different to what gets played every night during Club Classics on Heart.
It's pretty much come to the point where radio plays less a part in what records I enjoy listening to, having managed with the help of Spotify and several other applications to take my own musical directions which really has paid off.
Of course it doesn't mean all the tracks are perfect as I've sat through my fair share of dull Spyro Gyra records which only have one decent track on them.
Then again there's quite a lot of MP3 files (and occasional albums) on my computer that have Xs in front of them and I'm definitely looking forward to going through them as they're the ones I've tagged as records I really like.
I can't even remember what some of them sound like which is good as it fits perfectly into the "rainy day" scenario or when things get too distressing to the point that there's no light at the end of a never ending tunnel.
It will happen.
By the end of this year I will be in very unhappy state but then again it might not be that be if I expect things to be depressing as it won't feel as bad when it really does happen.
As for things now, it's pretty much impossible to look at them negatively as I've been in worse positions.
It's far from distressing.
Good Night.
