More laughs have been the order of this morning, through the first edition of Charlie Brooker's Newswipe which started on BBC Four last night.
In a similar style to Screenwipe, the outspoken host presides over how really bad television news seems to be produced and how certain stories are reported.
One such example in the first show being how complicated the recession is and the ridiculous techniques used by the broadcasters to explain it, to the point of looking stupid.
Five News for example, using a model train set to illustrate the story.
There was also a look into how some programmes, especially the rolling news channels spend so much time on location expecting a big event or incident to take place and in the end bugger all happens.
Whilst the show was entertaining, I'm curious to how it will sustain for a whole series, as Screenwipe could develop throughout as every week there would be a new really rubbish TV show for Charlie to rip the piss out of.
Whereas Newswipe would probably only work as a one off show, but the first episode made had me in stitches so I'll carry on watching for the second episode at least.
I didn't realise that Charlie used to study at this very place when it was called The London Polytechnic, studying a degree in TV and Video production although he didn't graduate as a result of not completing his dissertation.
I still think that in terms of television, he is this decade's more cutting answer to Victor Lewis-Smith.
