Dissertation De-Stressers

It's been another stressful but interesting morning. I went up into the radio rooms in an attempt to transfer the clips for my focus group from VHS to DVD unsuccessfully as for some reason, the DVD won't play on anything apart from the recorder I used to burn it on.

Bollocks.

That means I'll have to bring the television/VCR all the way to Becmead for tomorrow's focus group which is going to be quite a struggle as I'll need to then go back and bring my laptop over. Unless of course I print out my questions or "moderator's guide" up here but the printer in the radio rooms is still utter shite.

Things were made more stressful as I arrived at Anastasia's office at 11:30 as scheduled only to find there was someone else in the room. I ended up waiting for over half an hour and was prepared to be rather firm as soon as I got in as my time had been wasted (not that I don't do so myself anyway) but as soon as I got in I told her straight what was worrying me in a calm manner.

I was then told that I'm not in anywhere near a position to fail if I carry on doing what I plan to do and rather than analyse programmes in general, it would be best to just analyse the results of my survey and focus groups to make up the data analysis and discussion.

I was also suggested to do a background chapter looking at how Saturday night television has evolved in general so I think that all this is perfectly doable over the next month.

Other things that have happened that have taken my interest include the news that Fern Britton is to leave This Morning at the end of this series in July after 10 years.

Media Guardian Article

It's rather weird to think it's that long since she started presenting the show when she was alongside John Leslie on Fridays standing in for Richard and Judy.

They eventually went on to become permanent presenters but Leslie's sacking was more or less a blessing in disguise as it meant that Phillip Schofield who had recently been hired just to present on Fridays took over permanently and resulted in overall fun added to daytime television along their brilliant sense of humour that would often stem out of control.

I'm a bit gutted that she's going but I think it's the right time to do so whilst she's still popular on the show, and for the benefit of those who don't follow me on Twitter, I suggested that her replacement should be either Holly Willoughby or even Sarah Greene!

Both of them have actually presented This Morning in the last few years so it would make sense to have either of them alongside Schofe.

On a lower note, this year's National Television Awards are to be delayed until January 2010 due to ITV cutbacks which means essentially that there won't be an NTA awards ceremony this year at all.

It's quite possible that ITV will be even more of a laughing stock than it already is by the end of 2009, so at least I'll have something to gloat about even if things aren't too good for me.

Last of all I've managed to find the rather popular brass band version of "Happy Up Here"
by Röyksopp which has been given quite a lot of airing on The Chris Moyles Show.

Even if that version's just 40 seconds, you get a general idea of what it's about.
