Juvenile But Fun

More trawling, this time online as I've found one of Ant & Dec's earlier appearances from back in the day, from the first series of
CBBC's "Ant & Dec Show" in 1995.

I'd say that this was the boys best series as comedy performers and a lot funnier than anything they've done recently on Saturday Night Takeaway, as it was one of those children's programmes which really knew what made their audience laugh.

When the duo signed up for the show it was more or less evident that they didn't want big name guests or boy bands, opting instead for celebrities such as Rolf Harris, Bill Oddie, and Bernie Clifton.

Making guest apperances in this episode are "the gorgeous" Sonia, and Rod Hull and Emu much to the terror of the bird fearing Dec.

I also quite like the superb theme tune as composed by Steve Brown who also did the theme to SMTV a few years later. In the second series of The Ant & Dec Show they changed it slightly by adding guitars reflecting the edgier style of the show.

It's also worth mentioning the drama spoof "Hollywood Hospital" which spread out across the first series and starred Peter Simon as one of the patients. Fans of the gunge master will be pleased to know that he does his trademark slipping over the gunge, as well as an utterance of one of his catchphrases from Double Dare.

Whilst this series was entertaining, I thought the second series was even funnier although the mums and dads didn't think so.

However it will still remain one of the best by the Geordie Boys and it would be great if they returned to that style of performing rather than sticking to a tight and somewhat tired format.
