Morning.
It's been in public mind for a while but I'm liking the current Röyksopp record "Happy Up Here". It could quite possibly be this year's equivalent of "Eple" because it's catchy enough to be used as a music bed on almost every popular TV show.
Chris Moyles has caught onto it in the last few days by saying that it sounds similar to a Russian Brass Band track which makes is basically the same tune but done in the style of "Colonel Hathi's March" from the Jungle Book.
Chris then started comparing it to the original theme to the Paul Daniels Magic Show, the one that goes; "#You're gonna like it, get excited"
"Not a lot!, Not a lot!"
If I remember correctly Daniels had three theme tunes during when the show was on air, the one mentioned above, the one from the late 80s with the computer generated top hat, and my personal favourite was the one used for three series from 1992, very jazzy and uptempo but less brassy than the previous one.
You could say it was the saving grace for the show itself which by the time it was axed in 1994 looked pretty dated and should have been dropped five years earlier.
The mere mention of Paul Daniels prompted Dave to talk about his latest song parody of the Kings Of Leon's "Revelry" which isn't finished yet but is apparently called "Dreaming Of Debbie McGee".
This lead to lot's of speculation on the text about possible lyrics but as it's a pretty dull song anyway I'm not too excited.
Chris being Chris then started playing a load of theme tunes at random or to be more specific the theme to "Michael Bentine's Potty Time".
The good news for those of a nervous dispotion is that this clip
doesn't have the Thames ident in front of it.
On a similar note I spent a large part of last night putting together a medley of highlights from the Sunburst Band's latest album to play on my final show in May, (although my definitive final show could have been last night if what I wrote last night is anything to go by).
I won't give too much away but it works well together and is joined together by reverse cymbals, and various laser FX from Power Shot in the Blamires tradition.
More or less the same as Oli P playing sound effects of bombs and horns over records on his show a la Westwood, although I like to think my additions perform a purpose rather than interrupt the records.
But we're just having fun overall and as time is coming to an end this year, we're not really taking things too seriously.
