I've made a start on revisiting series 3 of I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here orginally shown in late January/early February 2004 and the first of two series that year.
I don't actually have many episodes as at the time I thought it wasn't as good as the last series although it did have it's moments.
Taking part this year were Jennie Bond, convicted fraudster Lord Brocket, Neil 'Razor' Ruddock, Peter Andre, Jordan (what did we let ourselves in for), Kerry McFadden (as she was known at the time) and Johnny Rotten. The man who fixed it so no one could swear on ITV again after he called those watching at home "fucking c**ts" after they didn't vote him out.
Not to mention WAG Alex Best, athlete Diana Modahl and Mike Read the DJ, who wanted to follow in the footsteps of Tony Blackburn and failed miserably.
Originally they were going to get Frank Carson but due to his health he had to pull out and Read was brought in just before they left for Australia.
One of the reasons I felt this series was inferior was partly because they introduced a gimmick of an electric drawbridge which would stop the contestants walking out like in the last series.
Whenever the drawbridge was lowered by Ant & Dec it was accompanied by what else, "O Fortuna" adding to the 'fear'.
However they starting taking the mickey after a few shows and playing other songs over it for good humour.
One of the VTs focused on the contestants saying what they would miss most and what came up the most was music. Especially in the case of Mike Read who wasn't allowed to bring his guitar into the jungle as a luxury item.
Thank goodness.
Another showed previous winners Tony Blackburn and Phil Tufnell saying what it took to win and the general suggestions were that those who were either loud mouthed or false would not win. Also featured were Jonathan Ross, Michael Buerk and future contestant Dean Gaffney who would appear on the show just over two years later.
Lord Brocket on the other hand said that he thought viewers would vote him off just on the basis that he was "an utter toff" but he actually came across really well and could have won the series, until he started making negative comments about Jennie Bond and labelling her as "a dinner lady".
The first trial that involved viewers votes was one that Dec wasn't keen on due to his phobia "Beat The Birds" which involved the contestant trying to collect stars in a pen of ostriches.
The viewers chose John Lydon to take the challenge to which he started singing in a sarcastic manner "#Beat the birds, tuppence a bag!".
I'm now about to head over to the Undercroft for the Irish celebrations taking place and I hope they'll be a few amusing goings on that I'll talk about in the next post.
