A Happy Family Reunion?

A pretty good show this week although for some reason the volume of the stream was incredibly low, depsite the external mixer in Studio 4 peaking.

I've no idea why that was the case and hope it will be sorted out in due course.

It seems quite a few people have ideas for the summer send off at the end of the year and Chris has hinted on his blog a possible reunion with ex student Pete.

If it does take place however I very much doubt it will happen on Smoke Radio as the committee running the station probably won't have them,
due to their negative comments made about the changes made this year.

Some of the comments I agree with as I thought parts were a bit heavy handed, but I've calmed down this semester and just got on with my own show while negative confrontations with various members are more or less absent nowadays.

And I very much doubt that Matthew would appreciate someone returning to the station who dropped out of the radio course just before the final year, and this doesn't happen often, but I have to agree with him as well.

There's also possible rumours that Impey and the Brain may return after yet another long absence which promised so much but never quite delivered despite having lots of potential.

In all honesty and without intending to sound arrogant, I thought Sami's best time on the station was when she co-presented my Summer Soul show two years ago as she was more relaxed, didn't force her links, and spoke to me like she would do so normally and even made a few nicely adlibbed jokes when given the opportunity.

I'd love her to co-present my final show in May, even if she is reunited with our "class clown".

Yes I know it's their final year, but the fact that most of them have disregarded the station isn't really a good indicator suggesting they should return, mainly because none of them have managed to host an individual show consistently for more than six months during the last three years.

Not consistently for six months non stop of course, but over a period of six months.

And I wouldn't really regard them as radio presenters in the same way as Goodlass and Marshall, Joe Haddow, Dan P and Chris Jones who all got good send offs as they managed to prove themselves and got on with just about everyone in all years doing the radio course and elsewhere.

I haven't included myself in that above list as despite being there longer than anyone, all I've really done is play a load of obscure soul records and talk nonsense in between each one.

But then again, as really good friends they are second to none as they are possibly the strongest I have ever had whilst at Uni, and have been more supportive to me than anyone was in my original year and that's quite a bold statement to make.

It's also further indication that I should stay in London after my degree.

Chilvers happened to be listening to me tonight and said a few good words so maybe I should take everything back.

Although I'm hoping this post is the catalyst for some heated but civillised debate tomorrow after Chris and Phil's focus groups, because as R Stevie's said before it's good that we don't agree with each other at times as it makes things more interesting.

Especially if Steven's fantasy radio line up is anything to go by.
