Hearing The Great News

I've just returned from a rather exhaustive journey back from Central, but more importantly an enjoyable and valueable visit to Radio 1's Newsbeat.
I got to sit in the control room where technical assistant Derek ensured that all the audio and live feeds went out as planned. This guy's just brilliant when it comes to audio production in terms of speed and making everything sound good with Audition and when I asked him how long he'd been interested, he told me that he used to muck about with mixing audio tapes together many years ago!
After hearing a package on the Simpsons movie, Derek also mentioned that he still had BBC 2's Simpsons Night on VHS as recorded back in 2000 with the brilliant documentary about Matt Groening's "Wasted Life". One to revisit when I get back to Canterbury which I'm not sure when it will be as far as transport goes, due to the torrential rain.

Overall this was a great opportunity to see the guys at the UKs finest radio news team do their job and it's their passion for it overall that made me feel part of it all on the visit. I'm really grateful for Ross T for letting me inside Radio 1 and we'll see how it all goes from now with loads of fresh ideas for the third year of my radio course, provided I don't overdo it!
Just one of the best visits to a radio station I've had.
