Despite my unluckiness with the last video post on the blog, I've found a few more extracts from Motormouth, both of a seasonal nature.
First of all from 1989, Neil Buchanan reveals Fuzzbox as the star guests in a Xmas special coming from a circus tent. I've always found the concept of a live television programme coming from such a location to be rather unnerving, with the early editions of The National Lottery Live being a prime example.
Also, from one year later, this offering features Andy Crane who had been poached from the BBC to try and help ITV beat Phillip and Sarah in the ratings which they succeeded in a few times but with TVS's franchise loss, it didn't last long. This time thankfully they decided to keep things in the Maidstone studios with special guest appearances from Frank Carson and Gordon Burns who's never been afraid to send himself up on television.
And if you're watching the clip with headphones listen carefully for a seasonally tinged version of the Motormouth theme in the background, for which I can remember the opening titles starting off with the animated mouth singing the "Gloria" line instead of the infamous scream!
Composers Mr Miller and Mr Porter definitely made the effort at Xmas to add extra sparkle to their themes with Motormouth's successor "What's Up Doc?" being another prime example.
I'm sure I've still got the Xmas themes for SM:tv lurking about somewhere as well, oddly enough.
