One of the main issues on the whiteboard last week was for Smoke Radio next year to avoid trying to be Radio 1 and be itself. I can actually remember being sat in on planning meetings and suggestions such as "there was this great thing on Colin and Edith a few weeks ago...".
But in all fairness I was just as guilty, as this Still 2 Come promo has obvious shades of the
ITV Chart Show with an overdose on fast forward noises.
I think I'll stick to just using impacts next year, as it will also save time.
However I can't resist trying to recreate the experience at home and have found myself searching for songs in the key of C to hear what they'd sound like preceeded by the legendary Top 10 intro!
Of course like most jingles and stuff of a similar nature it sounds a lot better as part of a flow.
But with a few exceptions it can be rather amusing especially with this example from Tudor Rock based on an old Tommy Vance jingle. Although in this case the man himself was fully aware that Tommy Vance was one of the greatest music broadcasters, and never took the comparison too seriously.
I've got a few ideas for the show's idents next year although it may involve going through a few vintage episodes of "The Trap Door".
