That's what it felt like when I visited the offices of the cross college support department to see how everyone was getting on. It was nice to see all of the support assistants such as Nora, Sally and Leisa although Mike who I had helping me for quite a lot of my time at Canterbury College wasn't there as he was at home sorting his washing out!
They're still continuing with the building of the new college facilities including those for the Media department which should be up and running by September and they've finally set a date for the much awaited top up course from the HND media course! Basically it's a 15 month course that allows you to top up your HND to a degree which quite a few people from my year and the one above me wanted to undertake. They've now managed to reach a deal with Greenwich University to make it feasable but I reckon now I really did make the right decision to go and do the radio course at Westminster. Especially as the top-up doesn't start until September 2008!
It saddens me that there are not many students on these courses who have genuine enthusiasm for what they are studying and drive to go even further. Fair enough you get quite a lot of self indulgent theory lectures which can be off putting but there were only four students who showed an interest in wanting to move on from the HND to a University degree.
One or two others have done pretty well have gone on to work for post production companies in London and another now works as a floor manager for a shopping channel.
But overall there are several people who sign up for these courses and either drop out halfway through or disrupt lectures by going on about how much they think they know.
However I'm really glad that I had the HND course to get to grips with writing essays academically otherwise I'd be screwed on my Uni course.
