After revisiting my last show from May, and the novelty hit "Suntan" by Stan, it's made me want to listen to more of my Right Said Fred records and they really were a great pop band who got it right when it came to music and lyrics.
Especially with their 2001 hit "You're My Mate" which Steve Ladner then at Invicta FM said he wasn't too sure about but after an appearance at their live concert "Paarty In The Daaaark!" they ended up being part of the playlist and continuing to be popular with Kent's listeners.
Steve's now doing the early show on BBC Radio Kent and clearly defines the perfect breakfast presenter with a great personality and reassuring relaxed voice. Very similar to Glenn Thompsett who's wife Julie "Jambuster" Maddocks now presents afternoons on the station.
My sister once met Steve at a party in nearby Wingham where he happened to be spinning the disks and he came across exactly as nice he was on air.
That's what radio needs more of, although lots of presenters who try to copy that style end up being bland and patronising. The epitome of a stereotypical hospital radio presenter which in all fairness doesn't cover the whole spectrum.
I'm not sure what today has in store, Oh I need to put that cheque for my credit card bill in an envelope to send off and then that's all my debts cleared for the summer. Apart from one great big one but I'll wait for the Autumn loan to arrive, provided that they don't fuck it up like they did last year. And if they do I know I'm not the only one.
