Further Backed Up Storage

I've spent the last two hours transferring stuff onto recordable CD and DVD-R, mainly the assessed live shows done last year such as the Breathe London stuff.

Whilst the concept provided really good results for the year that did it, I personally thought that it was an anti-climax and not as good as the live shows that we did for the Music Radio module earlier in the year such as the Retro Room and Funk Soul Nation.

I thought the presenting manner was a slightly contrived and with a tiny bit of cheese added in but in all honesty I wouldn't have been able to help come up with the goods if I was still involved in my year back then.

I've also burnt all the G Radio shows from October onto CD-R which I thought was the reverse of last year as everyone took skills learnt in the previous year to the next level and it was equally impressive considering Sam and Phil hadn't had a lead presenting role on either the magazine or music shows in the respective modules.

For some reason I've never kept actual live shows in my University folder on my hard drive along with other stuff such as branding, adverts and written document, as it feels special to have them on a physical compact disc like I do with all the other shows that have gone out on Smoke.

Whilst doing the job I've been listening to PY on Jazz FM where amongst this weeks offerings were my favourite Earth, Wind And Fire track "Runnin'" from their "All 'N' All" album from 1977. There was also a cover of "Can't Hide Love" by Skip Scarborough although I prefer the version by Dionne Warwick and the late Isaac Hayes which I may play either on my covers special next week, or a special show later in the year devoted entirely to live performances by soul artists.

I'm definitely looking forward to the latter as one of the tracks I plan to include is a special rare performance of Swing Out Sister in Japan with a medley of their top ten hit "Surrender" and "Coney Island Man" from their 1989 album "Kaleidoscope World".

I can remember going to see Corrine and the rest of the guys at the Jazz Cafe in October 2005 and lining up outside the venue where we could here the band doing a sound check, followed by what sounded like an opera record and the person in front of me said "Shit, wrong night!".

It was a good concert though and I met Corrine afterwards where she signed a set list I nabbed off of the stage after they finished performing. One thing that sticks in mind was during the encore and they hadn't performed their most well known song, prompting a fella in the audience to shout "BREAKOUT!" which got a few laughs.

I don't know if I still have that setlist or if it disapeared like a lot of things after August 07.
