Chris Moyles was on top form once again with the highlights of today's video streaming including a vote to decide who would take part in a press up contest. Inevitably Chris got the most votes and ended up competing against Aled and Carrie and Aled was out first although he did have his feet against the wall.
Dominic Byrne had a migraine so he left about an hour into the show with Jonathan Blake stepping in to read the news although Chris wanted to get Radio 1 news veteran
Rod McKenzie who's now the overall editor for Newsbeat but he was too busy
sorting everything out for the lunchtime show.
He's been brought back before though, including when they did the 40th anniversary celebrations although I didn't actually meet him when I visited Newsbeat two months earlier.
I did meet Dominic however and he really is a lovely fella.
The overall highlight was when they brought "Grey Ed" Will Kinder in who's looking after the live video this week and used to produce the show from around late 2000-2003.
They got him to play "Fire At Will" which involved him wearing a crash helmet with a cardboard box with "Fire At Will" written on it and Dave threw fruit at it including a pineapple, which they were allowed to throw as despite Rachel's objections, a Number 2 at Radio 1 gave them the go ahead quite a while back.
I don't know how much health and safety rules have changed since 1999.
The theme to "Chegger's Pop Quiz" is incredibly catchy although it reminds me once again of Keith's first appearance on Buzzcocks in 1998 when Mark asked him how the theme tune to his long running series "Cheggers Plays Pop" went to which Keith replied "Cheggers Plays Pop, du-dum, du-dum, du-dum".
When sung accapella it sounds very similar to Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" AKA the old Top Of The Pops theme which I reckon was the intention, although the rest of the panel started making up their own versions with different TV shows such as
"News At Ten, du-dum, du-dum, du-dum", and even
"Never Mind The Buzz- c-co, c-cocks!".
The titles to the 1985 series can be seen here with Phillip Schofield at the beginning, although the programme was famous for this legendary cock up involving a multiple choice question that could probably get the BBC into trouble if it was to happen now;
Cheggers: "In which year was "Dawn" a hit? Was it 1975, 1977, or 1978?"
Contestant: .....75?
Cheggers: "Ah, no it was actually 1976. There you go..."
On a similar note with regards to the press up vote it was the first time they'd done a vote as such since the competition suspension and Chris was moaning about how they had to get permission as such to do them and they couldn't do any competitions.
Except Cheggers Pop Quiz of course.
They are allowed to do competitions it's just that them, and certain other staff at the BBC can never be arsed to fill in the approval form that needs to be written adhering to the BBC's Code Of Conduct for competitions and phone-ins.
Surely it can only take about half an hour to fill in, but I've heard a few things about the rather selfish goings on within Auntie's domain, wasting our license money in the pub as such.
Although he's not a contracted BBC employee, I very much doubt Cheggers himself would spend that much time boozing in the present day.
