I've finished another day in Studio 6 transferring some more minidiscs, this time converting all my full jingle packages in my collection into MP3. Amongst them include the Lincs FM packages from the mid 90s which used JAM tracks with UK vocals, and were probably the slightly better examples of UK sung packages.
This example from 1995 shows a wide range of cuts from then current, and vintage packages such as "Special Touch", "Backseat Music", and "Best Country", the latter two date back to 1975!
However it's worth pointing out that the singers can't always get it right as proved by this cock-up of a jingle from "The Beat '92" starting off with how the jingle should sound correctly.
It's also worth mentioning this extract from the master of the package containing JAM president Jon Wolfert introducing another vintage cut from the "Best Country" package in his relaxed and witty manner.
I'm guessing that Len Groat was an influence as Alfasound hired the then controller of Trent and GEM AM as a consultant for the company with his encyclopedic jingle knowledge.
And also because he used a few cuts from the same package amongst others in the late 70s for various presenter cuts by JAM for Radio Trent.
Whilst I have a few of the packages used by the station I'm still searching for the additional cuts made around 1996 including the weather jingle that was based on a jingle from the "KZZP" package which Radio 1 adapted in 1987 for their station song.
The full length song for the national station didn't actually get played on-air that much with all the vocals, although Phillip Schofield once got a request for it when he used to do a Thursday night request show after Top Of The Pops, when it was broadcast simulataneously with BBC 1.
If I remember correctly, Phillip thought that it sounded "too American".
And from the same set of add-ons for Lincs FM was also a resing of cut 20 from the hard to find "Non Stop Power" demo originally done for WPLJ-Power 95 in New York back in 1987.
I've more or less finished transferring all my jingles although the big question is how to go about transferring all my radio recordings, some of which last 5 hours in length.
These include Radio 2's Live 8 Coverage, full series of Just A Minute and ISIHAC from 2003/2004, and various 10 Hour Takeovers from Radio 1 from around the same period, pre-University.
It may be a case of getting them done during either the Easter break or towards the summer although I'd prefer to get them done earlier as once Smoke is all done with this year, I do not want to set foot in M-Block again.
Mainly because there are more negative and stressfull memories than positive ones.
However I'll try my best to make sure that the next 5 months are more towards the latter.
Especially as there's no practical work this semester.
