A Random Smorgasbord

Basically it's a selection of a few things I've been working on or stumbled across in the last few days.

First of all is an audio version of the post on the top tunes of last year.

The Best Of '08

Also as part of a dare, or should that be challenge, set by Chris Chilvers near the end of last year, my attempt at being Bruno Brookes by counting down the Top 40 singles of 2008 in the style of Radio 1 20 years ago.

I haven't done that sort of thing for a while since college when myself and one of my fellow students used to do silly rundowns by making sure Gary Glitter was at number 1.
I may have those tapes back in Canterbury although the audio quality isn't great.

It's a lot better than Wes was at the time however, and possibly Fearne and Reggie today.

Following on from an earlier post about two weeks ago, Peter Sissons reporting on BBC News 24 about George Bush's mic blunder when speaking to Tony Blair at the G8 summit in July 2006.

Personally I found it funnier when Peter Sissons uttering the sentence in isolation was shown on The Big Fat Quiz of The Year, although with Bush's reign nearing it's end, that will definitely be one of the things I will remember him for.

And unlike Emily Maitlis quoting from Frankie Boyle, this incident is different as the actual line itself is an integral part of the story and a lot more serious than a dirty joke about the Queen.

Then again Peter Sissons is known for making plenty of mistakes involving a slip of the tounge, such as getting John Pienaar's name wrong and making rather dodgy comments about Anne Robinson on camera.

I've also made a few adjustments to the post on Hereward Radio by adding the photos from Aston in Peterborough and added a few extra bits in as well.

And finally a link to the Beta version of the new Radio 1 website which I imagine will coincide with the new Newsbeat idents and Chris Moyles jingles that begin next week.

From what I've heard, the Newsbeat stuff isn't as good as the current IDs which I reckon is one of the strongest themes they've ever had.
